A Response To “Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus”
To hate religion, but love Jesus is like:
- A runner who hates his own legs
- Loving a journey, but hating the vehicle
- Hating the book, but loving it’s story
Religion for a disciple of Christ is just the pragmatic side of the actual relationship. How would a marriage fair if the husband didn’t regularly (religiously) tell his wife that he loves her with his words and actions?
We all know and have seen how a relationship shrivels under such conditions.
Some couples might have a “date night” once a week. Some couples will make a point to say “I love you” every morning as they’re waking up. The fact is, a healthy relationship may contain as much conscientiously faithful acts as desired without being considered fake or ‘hate’-worthy.
Religion isn’t the substance that kills or chokes out our relationship with God. We as humans can do that all by ourselves.
So when you find yourself heartlessly going through the religious motions, I’d encourage you to blame it on your own depraved heart and not the religious acts themselves.
You have my blessing to love the Lord. Pray and read your Bible. Meet with other disciples and pray for one another…RELIGIOUSLY.
