Gag this mad grenade
It kisses coals, then disobeys
My drug of choice, I must confess
Are veils of black defensiveness
My claws, they grind on pain’s abrasion
Steady son, this sharp invasion
Beats a drum of human skin
The syncopated state I’m in
They tie my hands behind me
They spit their words upon me
My ghost responds without a sheet
Touché amour, but this defeat
Will not destroy the remnants of
My childlike faith and childlike love
I worked too hard to find them
There’s toil and tears behind them
A tender heart does not come cheap
The price goes up as pain goes deep
As wars are waged with weapons wielded,
Hope has held this heart and healed it
Sticks and stones will break these bones
And mock this heart; mock all I own
But here I am, alive at last
My armor’s down, my love is vast
